American Armed Forces Executes Lethal Strike in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities

As stated by a senior military official, the American armed forces carried out a lethal kinetic engagement on a vessel in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a deadly attack on a vessel operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Actions

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the US president accused Venezuela of using oil profits to fund drug trafficking and criminal activities, pledging to increase the military presence.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon said it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amidst Scrutiny

The government has encountered increasing demands to release video of a 2 September vessel attack. But, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of legal military action.

While the administration has said the operation is about stopping drugs destined for the US, remarks from a top official appeared to suggest a wider geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the president “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to oust Venezuela's sitting government.
