The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it sparked the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to experiment both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
