19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his initial championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved 21 championships at 21 different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my children simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 initial break points in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a point at the front of the court, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
