The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Boost Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Response

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had indicated the requirement for a distinct vision.

The president noted that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed approach, aiming to satisfy player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full message from the president's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the good news. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the chance to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”

With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was revealing. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had work to do. It uncovered the need for a clearer identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to heart and overhauled the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Lead of the team. Following a period of conversations, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having devoted the past decade and a half developing and managing some of the most recognizable titles in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in receiving him soon. We are all excited to persist seeing the progress of the game in the months to come.

The President

The appointee presently serves in the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, prior to that, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Details and Concept

Project Ethos was announced in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting evolution on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to match your preferred approach," the description reads. "Challenge the rivals with unique powers, stakes, and tests that shift every session. Will you safely extract with your valuable rewards? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and trust your team can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an announced launch window or consoles, but players can anticipate further news as creation progresses.
