The Two Fatalities Identified in the Ivy League School Incident as Law Enforcement Press On With Hunt for Killer.

The pair of scholars who died in the weekend's violent attack at Brown University were being remembered Monday – while an intensive search for their killer continued following the freeing by local law enforcement of the only individual questioned in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included second-in-command of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed words of sorrow on social media, stating: “Words cannot express. Thinking of her kin and peers, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other deceased individual was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the renowned school, his family confirmed.

His name was confirmed by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and assisting patients,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were wounded in the weekend shooting in the engineering department of Brown’s grounds in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated late Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a police operation at a lodging about around 27 kilometers from the scene earlier in the day was released from custody.

“We have a murderer out there,” said Rhode Island’s attorney general, Peter Neronha.

He continued, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you have to regroup and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last 24 hours or so.”

Community Anxiety

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, noted: “This will probably generate fresh anxiety for our public”.

The shooter discharged a weapon inside a classroom in the engineering building on Saturday, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a police source informed the news agency.

Police that entered the lodging seized two firearms and two ammunition clips when the suspect was detained, according to reports.

A group leader, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the club. “Ella was recognized for her fearless, heroic, and gentle spirit as she aided her club and other students,” he said.

The US ambassador, Jonathan Henick, said he was “extremely sorrowful” by Umurzokov’s death in a statement. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to the Umurzokov family, loved ones, and peers and grieve for of his promising future.”
